Better Than A Duty

One of the most ridiculous and outrageous movies I've ever seen is Nacho Libre. The story revolves around a young man in Mexico who is training to be a monk, and realizes along the way that his passion is actually wrestling. He realizes that his heart isn't really into what he's doing. There comes a point during his mundane duties where he exclaims..."I think I need a better duty!"
I found myself thinking recently...why do I follow Christ? Why do I make decisions that He would want me to? Why do I worship Him? Why don't I let this world consume me? Is it because I have a sense of duty or obligation to God? Does God have His checklist out and is He marking things off as I do them?
Fortunately, I can answer that I don't do these things out of a sense of duty or obligation. I do them because they are an instinctive response to what God has done for me. Following God isn't about checking mundane and unexciting things off the list, but rather engaging in life changing worship of the God who made us and conquered sin and death. That's a lot better than a duty.
